A gang of 25-35 dirt bike riders created major chaos on busy Interstate 93 south in Boston Saturday. Troopers chased them down and there was shooting involved.
Seven riders have been charged for the chaotic scene the group has caused.
Police began receiving numerous 911 calls reporting a group of people riding dirt bikes and ATVs recklessly, passing in between other vehicles, and even riding/driving in the wrong direction on I-93.
Troopers saw the group riding recklessly and in a dangerous manner and they confronted them on the ramp to Exit 18, where they tried to make arrests.
“During that encounter, a trooper discharged his weapon, striking one of the riders, a 28-year-old Randolph man,” Massachusetts State Police spokesperson David Procopio said for CBS Boston.
That man was Aderito Monteiro, 28, of Randolph. The police report says he was driving a white ATV and he was aiming at the trooper right before he got shot.
Monteiro was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on Monday. He faced charges of negligent operation, failure to stop for police, disorderly conduct, marked lanes violation, driving an unregistered all-terrain vehicle, and driving an uninsured ATV, according to the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office.
He pleaded not guilty and got the bail set at $2,000.
