CORPUS CHRISTI – Recently, there has been a lot of fuss around a mom who allowed her boyfriend to take her 7-year old daughter on the back of a sport bike around Corpus Christi. The mom has decided to fight back against all the critics she got across social media.
A photo of a child riding at the back of a motorcycle has sparked some serous outrage nation-wide on social media.
The photo was captured by a driver and posted on Facebook. The little girl’s mother, Mallory Torres, fired back through her own Facebook account after numerous people who questioned her parenting skills.
“Some of you may have seen this picture on Facebook, and some of you may have even seen this in person. This is my 7 year old daughter riding home from school on a motorcycle. Yes. She’s 7, and she’s on a motorcycle. ‘Why?’ Some of you may ask, Because I love my daughter. That’s right I LOVE MY DAUGHTER and she loves to ride.”
Her boyfriend, John Hays, has over 2 decades of motorcycle riding experience. The 7-year-old always wears a full-face helmet, vest and gloves when he takes her for a ride.
“Before I even took her on her first ride, I walked around the motorcycle, I showed her the motorcycle, I showed her the exhaust, what not to touch. I told her where to ride, her position, I told her where to hang on to,” said Hays.
“My kids are my life and I do everything I can for my kids. For anybody, especially who does not know me, to say that I’m a bad parent that just gets to me. I don’t feel the need to defend my parenting, but to let people know that I parent one way, you parent another.. that doesn’t mean it is wrong.”- Mallory Torres tells Action 10 News
She’s standing up directly and talking to those who thought her daughter was too young to be on the back of a bike. There’s video on Facebook of Torres’ daughter waving hello to people passing them by on the road.

Texas law requires a child passenger on a motorcycle to be at least 5 years old and they must wear a helmet.
