Group of Bikers to Hold Event For 5-Year-Old With Brain Tumor

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — A group of bikers is organizing an event to help raise money for a little boy fighting aggressive brain tumor.

Members of Simply Sick MC and Justin Roberts, a manager of Westside Scooter Sales Inc., are holding a poker run along with a bike and car show to raise money for Deion Douglas, a 5-year-old boy who was diagnosed in August 2016 with a rare type of brain tumor known as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG).

Doctors only gave Deion several months to live, but the family is holding on to hope that a chemotherapy treatment in Mexico called intra-arterial chemotherapy might be their saving grace. Deion’s doctor, Dr. Krystal Bottom, said this treatment is offered in the United States, however it is temporarily closed for revisions.

As soon as Roberts and Tipsy Hensley heard about Deion’s story, they knew they had step in and help.

The biker community in this area really does care,” Hensley, one of the event organizers, said for ABC News 13.

The group hopes to raise enough money so the family can afford the treatment.

The event is open to the public .

The run will be held at:

  • MR Motorcycle, at 774 Hendersonville Road
  • 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. July 29

There will be a variety of raffles and music entertainment.

Anyone who would like to donate to the event contact Roberts at 828-676-7694 or donations can be left with Hensley at MR Motorcycle.
