Excited Rider Shows Off His New Motorcycle on Facebook. A Day Later, He Takes His Last Ride

The ironic cruelty of life never ceases to shock us. A couple of days ago, a young rider named Luke Porter was proudly showing off the birthday present he bought for himself, posting photos of it on Facebook: a brand new, shiny, royal blue motorcycle.

He wanted to take it for a spin before Bike Week.

By the next evening, Luke was dead. Precisely, he was killed while riding his new motorcycle in a crash with another vehicle in Jacksonville.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2016 Chrysler 300C was going south on Main Street around 10:30 p.m. and failed to yield to a motorcycle trying to turn left onto the I-295 northbound entrance ramp. (Via: Miami Herald)

The front of the truck struck the front of Luke-s motorcycle, according to the FHP report. Luke was taken to a hospital where he died. He was only 28 years old.

The car driver, 18-year-old Erykah Simmons, was not injured. Charges are pending.

It is still not clear if alcohol or drugs played a role or if Luke wore a helmet.
